I love getting to see mums-to-be while they are pregnant and then again once their newborn has arrived! These guys were no exception!

I knew they were waiting on a little girl, but wow, Lilly is just adorable. And big brother William was just great with her! We had a great time in the studio earlier this week.

brothers and friends

Earlier this week I had Molly and her beautiful family in the studio for their newborn session.

I was excited to have them back in front of the camera as I loved every minute of their maternity session! (see photo below!)

Renee Diaz Photography_54Little Harlo was so alert and super keen to find out what we were up to during his session- which means I was able to get some awesome awake images of him!Renee Diaz Photography_5

Renee Diaz Photography_52Renee Diaz Photography_105It didn’t take long though and he was off to sleep and we got to capture some sleeping images.

I have had this little fox set up for a while now and haven’t used it any where as much as I should have! I am so glad we used it as I just love these photos!Renee Diaz Photography_81Thanks so much for choosing me to photograph this special time in your life guys ! I can wait to show you all your photos!!

Nevaeh’s Newborn Session

both

Last week Beautiful little Nevaeh came in the studio for her newborn session.

Her mum – Meg- only phoned me the day before as she decided she didn’t want to miss out on capturing her while she was still fresh!

I’m so glad she called and I was able to get them in, and it worked out perfect as Nevaeh’s big brother Tyson had a student free day so he was able to come so we could get some sibling images.

I think by all them smiles I captured Nevaeh really enjoyed her newborn session! I sure did 😉

Renee Diaz Photography_2Renee Diaz Photography_27Renee Diaz Photography_49Renee Diaz Photography_38I absolutely love when we can include something from home! This was made for Nevaeh as a gift 🙂

two new babies to love

Last week I was so lucky to be able to photograph a dear friends new additions. Patrick and Angus.

This was the first set of twins I have photographed since being back in SA and I was both nervous and excited! I’m so happy with what we managed to capture!

I met Mandy 9 1/2 years ago after I had Cohenn and joined a mothers group. There are defiantly more kids now than when we used to catch up.

These guys have been in front of my camera a few times now, once when Flynn (now 4) was born for his newborn photos and last year when we visited them for family photos. And now again with 2 little extra people!

Thanks so much guys for coming all the way from Victoria so we could meet your new family members!

And thanks to Kerri-lee, Kelly and Donna for being my helpers on the day !

Little Zoe’s Birth

Renee Diaz Photography

Maternity ~ Birth ~ Newborn ~ Beyond

Those who have followed my page for a while will know that photographing a birth was something I have always wanted to do. Unfortunately living in Victoria with out family meant that the practicalities of dropping everything when a expectant mum was in labour was not possible. I am very lucky this year to be back in the Adelaide Hills and have wonderful friends and family who wont mind (wont mind and have no choice – same thing!) 3 am calls to baby sit my two kids!

There are so many reasons why I wanted to and still want to photograph births. Its something completely different to photographing a maternity or newborn session. I have no control of what sort of lighting there would be- if any- (this is why I own and know how to use my camera which is made for low light situations as I chose not to use a flash and disturb a labouring mum) I don’t get to pose anyone, and its not in my warm studio at 9.30 on a Monday !  So different and so awesome.

Late August I meet up with Amanda. We had a chat about what sort of birth she was hoping for, how her first birth went, how she was not to yell at me during labour and make me cry, how I might need a cup of tea made for me by her (labour or not!) if bubs was coming in the early hours!! Jokes aside it was a quick little meeting so when everything was happening I wasn’t meeting her for the first time at the hospital!

During the next couple of weeks I got weekly updates of how everything was going- it was exciting!!

Finally on the Friday 11th Sept I got the message saying Amanda’s waters had broke and it was all about to start! After a lot of messages -and hours!- back and forth I headed in to the hospital Saturday night at about 9pm.

The next couple of hours were AMAZING! I feel so privileged to be able to do what I do. To be a fly on the wall. To be a part of peoples intimate moments , creating lasting memories for them. I got to have a few cuddles with little Zoe while she was only minutes old, and I’m not bragging -but I did guess her exact weight- it could be a hidden skill I have 🙂

I headed home at about 2 am. Not sure I slept as I was wide awake in awe. Amanda was amazing. Michael kept us all amused with his dad jokes. Sadly I laughed at  few :p

The next morning I headed back in for a mini session- We wanted to get a few of big sister Sophia meeting her new baby sister.  Such a perfect little family!

Only a handful of the photos I took are in the little video below.

Thanks so much for choosing me to be your birth photographer Amanda , its something I will never forget !
